According to recently published figures, a staggering GBP3 Billion is sitting unclaimed in occupational and personal pension funds.
As well as being down to workers generallu moving company more frequently and as such losing track of their pension funds, this problem has been exacerbated by companies changing their name or ceasing trading.
As expats this subject is even more of an issue, as we tend to move more often and documents can get lost in transit. It is also easier to forget about the pension that you were paying into 15 years ago, when you are enjoying the expat lifestyle in Dubai.
Are you in this position? Have you lost track of your pension?
If you are, your first port of call should be the Pension Tracing Service. This is a free service run by the government, which can help you find a pension that you have lost track of, even if you don’t have any paperwork or contact details for the provider/old employer.
Obviously, the more information that you can come up with the better. So if you can dig up things like scheme numbers, employment dates, employer names, etc. then these will all help.
To get the ball rolling, you can either give them a call on +44 191 215 4491 or simply download their pension tracing form here.
Warning!! A number of companies have sprung up offering to find lost pensions for a fee. Ignore them. Why pay when the Pension Tracing Service can do it for free?
